Beatriz Chamussy - Ballerina in Varanasi

Drying cow dung in the sun is a common practice in Varanasi. India has a massive bovine population. All those cows produce a lot of poop, which is then used as both fertilizer and fuel. The 'patties' are made by mixing fresh cow faeces with hay and the have been used for centuries to light fires. For me it was the first time seeing it. I took this photo on the ghats in Varanasi, a few meters far from the Ganges River. A spontaneous capture when I noticed the girl moving with her pink dress like a ballerina, flying beautifully. Such a big contrast with the smelly cow dung in her hand.
